Job Title:  DAEP Teacher                                          Reports to:  Principal

 

Dept/School: Assigned Campus

 

 

Primary Purpose: 

 

Supervise students assigned to DAEP (Disciplinary Alternative Education Program) for disciplinary reasons.  Maintain a highly structured and orderly enviroment.  Work under the general supervision of the  principal. 

 

 

Qualifications: 

 

Education/Certification: 

 

Bachelor'sdegree from an accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

 

Ability to accommodate special needs for students.

Ability to work well with students.

Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.

Ability to use personal computer.

 

Experience: 

 

One-year experience as a classroom teacher. 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Instructional Support

 

1. Work with classroom teacher and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured classroom environment. 

 

2. Work with individual student to complete assignments given by classroom teacher.

 

3. Consult classroom teachers regarding student assignments.

 

4. Able to teach multiple subjects at different grade levels. 

 

5. Distribute, collect, and check student assignments for accuracy.

 

6. Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return to classroom teachers.

 

7. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Student Management

 

8. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and Individual Education Plans (IEP). 

 

9. Record student attendance and discipline referrals according to established procedures. 

 

10. Supervise students assigned to DAEP during lunch and bathroom breaks.

 

Other

 

11. Maintain confidentiality. 

 

12. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events when required.

Tools/Equipment Used:  Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment.

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15lbs)

 

Environment: Work inside:  may work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather); exposure to noise

 

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
